Yala is Sri Lanka's most famous national park, known for one of the world's highest densities of leopards plus elephants, sloth bears and crocodiles.

Covering a vast area of scrub forest, lagoons and coastline in the south-east, Yala National Park offers thrilling jeep safaris. Leopards are the star attraction, but you may also see elephants, sloth bears, mugger crocodiles, deer and hundreds of bird species.

Morning and afternoon safaris are best for wildlife activity. Parts of the park may close for a few weeks around September and October.
